Old Town Square has a special charm in the early m Old Town Square has a special charm in the early morning. The quiet is only occasionally interrupted by delivery trucks or the sound of a broom sweeping the cobblestones. Otherwise, it feels like you have the whole place to yourself.

It just takes waking up a little earlier, but it’s well worth it. Plus, you can enjoy the Astronomical Clock’s apostle show in peace. For the past few months, it has been starting an hour earlier, at 8 AM.

January 27 marks International Holocaust Remembran January 27 marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This year it is exactly 80 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp - a moment that calls for reflection, remembrance and education.

In Prague, history speaks even from places where we might not expect it. Have you ever noticed the small brass plates embedded in the sidewalks? These are Stolpersteine, or also “Stumbling Stones,” which commemorate Holocaust victims in front of their last voluntary residence.

Each stone tells a story: a name, a birth, a life, a tragedy. The project was started by German artist Gunter Demnig and today you can find Stolpersteine all over Europe. Prague is home to hundreds of them. They commemorate neighbours who once lived here and whose stories must not be forgotten.

These little memorials are easy to miss. But now that you know them, you will surely start noticing them more often. So the next time you come across one of these brass plaques, stop for a moment. Bow down, read the name and think of a story that must never be forgotten.
